Bevrudl

The Bevrudl system consists of 6 planets, and is situated equidistant from both Elash and Deep Space 5. Its location is ideal from a strategic point of view to both the Federation and the Elyshans, as it would provide an ideal rallying point for a surge into either territory, and also provides a vital location from which to make a defensive stand against an incursion into home territory across the chasm of unclaimed space.

Bevrudl is known for its extremely efficient economy and its high population levels, with the local population spread out over two planets and five moons. The Bevrudl life span is roughly 30 years less than a Human’s, on average, but the typical birth rate amongst the population is significantly higher, with children maturing at a much higher rate. The widely accepted age for a Bevrudl to be considered an adult is only fourteen years. The planet was approached by the Federation in late 2374 to open negotiations for membership – the Dominion War was swallowing huge numbers of Starfleet personnel, and the Federation was eager to gain as many members as it could to stabilise the population of the superpower. The Bevrudl declined the offer, instead remaining neutral in the conflict.

A second attempt at opening negotiations with Bevrudl was made in 2380, which was again politely declined by the system government. Though remaining completely neutral in any conflicts, Bevrudl has been keen to allow limited trade routes to their outermost colonies, with all products gained in trade transported by themselves to their secluded, inner system colonies and their home planet, situated on the second world out from the sun. As the Elyshan threat became apparent, Bevrudl began minimising its trade connections with all Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers – Starfleet Intelligence believes that Bevrudl may have traded with the Elyshan Empire on much the same terms as they had traded with the Federation, but it is purely speculation at this point in time.
